The first Peruvian Hercules were two civil L.382E-26C transfered to FAP in April 1973 and delivered to No.41 Transport Group at Jorge Chávez AB, Lima. They received civil and military registrations 394/OB-R-1188 and 395/OB-R-1004. Later on a third aircraft, an L.382E-27C, was transfered from SATCO and was registered as 396/OB-R-956. Two of them were destroyed in accidents: FAP 395 crashed in February 19 1978 at Tarapotó during take-off, due to an engine shut-down; FAP 396 crashed at San Juan in April 1981, while trying an emergency landing at night. Remaining aircrafts are: FAP 394, 382, 384, 397 and 398. Some of them have used civil registrations.
Between November 1976 and January 1977, the Peruvian Air Force received three L.100-20, with similar specifications as the C-130H. All of them were model L.382E-37C and were serialed 382 to 384. FAP 383 crashed at Puerto Maldonado in June 1983 while trying to land in bad weather conditions.
Two additional L.100-20s, model L.382E-47C were delivered to the FAP in March 1981 and asigned 397 and 398 serials.
It has been known that Peru got six ex USAF C-130As in late 80s, possibly as part of US aid in the anti-drugs war. Other two C-130As were ordered but not delivered to the Peruvian Navy, and the Peruvian National Police took the option for two short-term leased C-130As from the US Coast Guard. They were returned to owner after the lease period.
